The Benefits of Motiv8 Tutoring

MATHS

Maths skills are fundamental in daily life; leaving the house to arrive on time, calculating how much paint you need and financial literacy are obviously important skills to master.   Studies have shown that working on your maths skills keeps your brain healthy and functioning well too - 2 for the price of one!

Mathematics skills open up many career paths and can help train the mind the same way sport trains the body.  Learning the four pillars of maths can help students think critically, problem-solving supports the ability to think creatively, critically, and logically and alongside the ability to structure and organise - boosting student confidence in maths can help them further develop their schooling skills generally.

KEYBOARD

The links between piano playing and intelligence are well documented; studying piano has been shown to improve verbal memory — and builds habits like focus and perseverance, diligence and creativity.

These studies show that children who have even just a few years piano study under their belts remember, on average, twenty percent more vocabulary words than their peers.

Motiv8 Music Courses all culminate with a short concert, to celebrate, boost confidence and share progress with friends and relatives; an important part of the learning cycle.   Tutors support students through the nerves and disappointments as well as celebrate successes - all performances are learning experiences and help musicians develop resilience and a sense of achievement.

Motiv8 Music Courses are in a small group format - groups of between 4 and 6.  They really help bring out the fun in lessons as we make our own band! as well as developing ensemble and listening skills right from the word go.

ART

If you want to know why art is good for you in life, here's a just a few reasons!  It enhances fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, problem solving skills, lateral thinking, complex analysis and critical thinking skills. No matter what career you choose, those who can arrange, present and display material in a way that is aesthetically pleasing have an advantage.  On top of that - James Catterall, leading professor and Chair of the Faculty at the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, has studied 12,000 students over twelve years.  His research demonstrates that involvement in the arts (both Visual Art and Performing Art) – especially for students from a low-income background – is associated with higher levels of attainment in both high school and university (read more here)  He says that there are other positive benefits - greater involvement in community service being one.    Learning to be an artist sounds like a good idea to us!!

Then there's the small group setting of a Motiv8 Art course.  It's designed to enhance our ability by learning from each other, seeing things from another perspective as well as encouraging of feeling that we are more than our individual ability; that we can be greater than the sum of our parts.
